Proposed Federal Bill Would Pre-Empt State and Local Paid Sick Leave Laws

Three Republican representatives have introduced a federal paid leave bill through which employers could encourage flexible work arrangements by lumping sick, vacation and holiday time into a minimum number of paid leave hours annually. It would amend the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and offer employers a safe harbor from state and local paid sick leave laws, now in effect in eight states and 30 local jurisdictions.
