Being an informed job seeker will help you stay one step ahead of the competition. Here is a roundup of the current top job seeker insights:

Hooble

Job boards are one sided — you apply and wait. Hooble, which is set to launch in the late Spring is changing that. Candidates will be able to set up profiles, communicate directly with employers and engage on a deeper level. An innovative candidate board will offer new ways to define your personal brand and showcase your marketable skills. Check it out later this month and use it to demonstrate skills beyond the resume.

Comparably

Is the job offer you just received reasonable? Are you getting underpaid compared to the other gender? Comparably.com recently launched in order to try answering these questions. Learn where your salary ranks according to job title, company size and location. Comparably even alerts you of changes in your field. This is a great tool to access during the negotiation process.

Future Workplace Survey

When job hunting, it is absolutely essential to use your network strategically. A new survey conducted by research firm Future Workplace once again proves this to be true. According to 71 percent of HR professionals surveyed, employee referrals are the best resource for finding candidates, yet only 7 percent of job seekers surveyed view referrals as a top resource. Lesson: Use referrals to your advantage!

CareerBuilder

It appears CareerBuilder is expanding. After recently announcing new Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for recruitment, CareerBuilder has now acquired Aurico, a provider of background screening and drug testing. This furthers CareerBuilder’s reach into every step of the hiring process. Who knows — you may get tested by Aurico the next time you hear “You’re hired.”

LinkedIn

Finally, LinkedIn has a new preferred partner program. This new LinkedIn Talent Solutions Preferred Partner Program focuses on applicant tracking system (ATS) providers that are committed to supporting LinkedIn recruiting solutions. While this news will be of most interest to recruiters and hiring managers, it does underscore the importance of maintaining accurate information on your LinkedIn profile if you’re hunting for a new position.
